WR121 Instructional Session
What are we talking about today?
- What resources will help you find items for your problem/solution essay.
- How to search efficiently using these resources (and how that's different from what we might be used to).
- How to find help when we get stuck.
- And then we'll actually search!
Let's talk about the recommended resources for your problem/solution essay.

Let's talk about how to search efficiently.
Let's try to search one of the above resources and get 0 results! Select keyword(s) that won't give us anything...can you think of the "magic" word(s) to stump the database?
What searches got the fewest results? Why do you think the searches changed based on your keywords? Would the searches change if you used the same words but a different database?

To make sure you can access your sources wherever you are, DO NOT copy the URL from your web browser.
Instead, look for database tools that allow you to email yourself the source or copy a link. These tools look different based on where you're searching, but they are usually found at the top of a source or on the right side of your screen:
Let's talk about how to get help!
When you search, you might find yourself getting stumped. That's totally normal, there's a lot to this whole research thing! To help you, the library offers a wide range of services. We'll help even if you're not using library resources, you just have to ask!
Let's stop talking and start searching!
You know where to click to find tools, how to search those tools efficiently, how to email and cite your sources--plus how to get help when you need it. Now let's use that information to search!
