Requesting items through ILL
When you find an item through a library database:
When you find something that doesn't have full-text access, you'll still be able to read a summary, and you should find a link that looks like this:
Clicking on that link will actually search in other library databases for your item. If it's located in another database, it will tell you which one to search to find full-text. If it's not located in another database, it will give you the option to "Request from another library." Click this link to request full-text.

If you've never requested an item before, click this link to get directions on creating an account. If you have, sign into your Interlibrary Loan account using your COCC email username (WITHOUT THE @COCC.EDU!) and your COCC email password.
The information needed to request the article will be auto-filled into the form, you'll just need to scroll down to the bottom of the page, and click Submit Request.
You will be notified via your COCC email when the article has been delivered to your Interlibrary Loan account. The email will include a link back to the Interlibrary Loan log in page, where you will log in with your COCC email username (WITHOUT THE @COCC.EDU!) and your COCC email password. Under the Download Received Articles Here section, you will see a PDF icon. Click on the PDF icon to view the article. You can download this article to your computer and keep the file for as long as you need it--no need to return it to the library and it won't disappear. After 30 days it will disappear from your Interlibrary Loan account, but not where you saved it.
When you find an item online that asks you to pay for it:
First and foremost, NEVER PAY FOR AN ARTICLE! If you have any questions about the following steps, please contact a librarian and we can help you place a request!
You might have come across something on Google Scholar or you found a citation in another source and the library doesn't have access. In most scenarios, you will have all the information you need to make a request.

You will be taken to your ILL account homepage. On the left side of the screen, you will see menu options. Under the Place a New Request header, click the source type you are requesting (a majority of the time, this will mean clicking on Article).
You will now see a blank request form. Fill in all the required fields (required fields are marked with a red asterisk). This information should be found in the link from Google Scholar or the citation. If you need help identifying what information should go in the fields, please contact a librarian.
When you're done, make sure you scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Submit Request.
